Looking for something to do, Dix called the Game and Fish Department to alert them that Mama Owl has seemingly abandoned her fledglings at the Sunrise Mall. Now the bigger baby is left to take care of the little baby, an unfair responsibility for a young owl. The officer said not to worry, that the Mamma is probably shopping for food (I think she was just looking for some place to dry out and rest). He said furthermore, as nature is cruel, the bigger baby will be inclined to eat the runt owl. Well, that's not the ending Dix was looking for. Officer Johnson said don't worry, they have plans. I think they happen at night. The next day there were no owls in the box. The babies are still too young to fly. They seem to have moved down the roof where there is a gable and better shelter from an eave.
The sewer guy ran a camera down the neighbor's sewer line and spray painted his findings on the cement. Their sewer has deteriorated towards their end of the line and settled in the portion under our driveway. Our kitchen line appears to parallel, and not join, with their line. Our kitchen line gets plugged every other year but is manageable with Draino. And the plumber showed us where we could link that line to the main drain in the basement as a fall-back. However, the only solution for the neighbor is to replace his line now while I am repaving our driveway. That forces him to tear up his driveway too and so it will be a nice seamless project.
