Spook on the Rebound

Since we first realized his diabetes a year ago, we have been giving Spook an average of six units a day of insulin, roughly one unit for each ounce of water he drinks over ten ounces per day. There was a three-month (Sept-Nov) period with normal drinking and therefore no insulin for those months.

A week ago he went into mild insulin shock which indicates he has suddenly begun producing his own insulin again and so our dosage put him into a hypoglycemic condition. It's a classic wandering in a circle activity - like he may be dizzy. We gave him a dose of Karo syrup and he regained his senses after a day. We have consequently weaned off the insulin.

So Spook has become a nice science project, and while it's pretty early to tell, I think we may beginning another period of remission. Maybe it's a sign of Spring.
