Small World

Before the Superbowl, we placed an add in the local Quik Quarter to sell our old big screen TV. We had one call before the game but lost the sale because, having just placed the ad, Dix said we would not come off the $400 price. The second call came the following week and Dix tried to use the same line, but the caller was the original one and corrected her saying we have had the add in the paper for a week now. Whoops, he was right - a good negotiator - and we met at $350. Then, after giving him our address, he said, "Hey, I used to live next door! My name's Shawn." Wow, the same kid we knew 8 years ago - a bit of a delinquent back then. He had tossed a stone at one of our windows, cracking it and afterwards I gave him gainful employment cutting down a ratty plum tree. In a town of 50,000 people, the one caller responding to our ad turned out to be our former next door neighbor. We had a nice hour long chat learning about the period during which he developed into a nice young man.

So tonight we ordered a new 61-inch HD TV. Big time on-line consuming in the middle of the night. It's so very dangerously easy to do.
