The loss of Pyrite's sight in one eye turned out to be the warning that may save her sight in the other eye. After a week of eye drops, we found the pressure has dropped in her bad eye but we also found the pressure was starting to rise in her good eye. Now we are applying drops to both eyes, the pressure has stabilized and by increasing the frequency to three times a day, we expect the pressure will decrease in the good eye too in time to save her sight. Without asking too many questions, this tells me her condition is primary glaucoma, rather than a secondary effect of a tumor - with a better prognosis than originally thought. Meanwhile, Spook is getting skinny as a rail which is a sign he might be checking out before long. However, he seems perky in his golden years, and so we are starting to give him more nourishing and tasty vittles in addition to his diabetic food, and looking the other way when he raids Pyrite's dish. Not coincidentally, there have been two fights in the last two days as these geriatric cats try to maintain their standings.
The neighbors are gone, her and one kid visiting Europe, the other kid at the grandparents and him sitting on a rig. So I took the opportunity to cut down a vine that was starting to strangle the spruce that we like to look at out the kitchen window. Before he died the old manager/ part owner gave me permission to do any trimming I wanted to do. The renters will not even notice the difference. She comes back tomorrow. We will want to keep our distance, which is the normal relationship anyway, for a quarantine period.
