4-Wheeling Green Mountain
We met Les and Debbie at the predesignated GPS coordinates. Unloaded at Willow Creek and had a beer. 4-wheeled three miles up the mountain to a secluded park where I thought we would have lunch but it was despoiled by lounging cattle. We took a hike to try to find the secret trapper cabin but lost interest in exploring through ridge and ravine at this high altitude. Continued 4-wheeling and climbed to Whiskey Ridge. Les followed but Debbie balked, rather refused, to attempt the final hill climb. Coming back down was even scarier. Les was fishtailing and sweating. Dix had me in a death grip. We found a level, shady spot and had a picnic on a blanket - we provided shrimp and cocktail sauce from the Grant Street Grocery (better than Red Lobster) and Les opened a chilled bottle of a Sonoma County Frei Brothers Chardonnay Reserve. Got sort of lost but after circling around, we recognized the same family of wild horses we saw earlier and were relieved to be back on track. Took a break and cooled our boots in a creek. The Bombardier was running nicely after its $80 tuneup. It still had the clickity-clack I was concerned about but Dix told me for free it was just the gun scabbard holder that was rattling. We never saw a deer or elk, understandably since we were traveling during their nap time, except for one doe that popped her head up from the shade of a pine tree within 100 yards of the pickups. Today we have good aches and starting off with baby steps.
