Pyrite

The vet ophthalmologist diagnosed Pyrite to have melanoma of the iris. Consequential thickening of the iris led to secondary glaucoma causing blindness in that eye. This indicates the tumors are probably malignant and he recommends removal of the eye. It's regretful for us because she had such beautiful big yellow eyes. But she is not vain and eye pressure can be painful, so that's were we're headed if the eye drops don't relieve the pressure. The drops do seem to be working because she is behaving a little more outwardly as if pain may have been alleviated. However even if the pressure is alleviated the cancer could spread, so we probably still need to remove it. But, if the cancer has metastasized, there's no point in further traumatizing her in removing the eye. So we'll do a blood test for cancer, and ironically if there is no cancer, we will remove the eye. It's a hard decision, so I repeat to myself, she doesn't care if she loses the eye that cannot see anyway, the pressure could be causing pain, the melanoma could be metastasizing if not now then later, and she seems to be cancer free otherwise. Meanwhile, Spook the diabetic geezer alley cat has rid the immediate neighborhood of all stray competition. We recently observed him walking on the garage roof having climbed the concrete wall, hopping to the step ladder and from there jumping to the roof. He may outlive us all.
