Dix got a belated birthday present from Jean, one of the horsebusters group we helped organize when we were in Reno.
It was a photo of two of wild horse stallions fighting. Ben was the stud of a four-horse band. Dix rescued his lead mare Mollie who had fallen into a cattle guard. They had a special bond after that near disaster. Goliath was a 16-hand bachelor that took over Ben's group. This was one of the valiant attempts by Ben to regain his position which he did on several occasions but eventually he had to retire, with many scars and two shortened ears.Yes, we had names for each of over one hundred horses that we managed to keep out of trouble in our subdivision.
