Traveling between Tuscon and Florence, Arizona there was a roadside marker for a writer of desert lore. The flora was lush and varied with the sunlight highlighting the spines like halos. I accumulated stickers on the soles of my sandals that I had to pull out with pliers.
Hiking (trying to keep up with) with Caroline on White Tank Mountain west of Phoenix, I saw a Saguaro posing as a cross on top the mountain. We hiked about seven miles. I was very grateful for her knowing to bring water and trail mix.We took a turn towards the end of the hike without consulting the map that added another mile to the hike. The diversion pushed my endurance but rewarded it with a Saguaro skeleton towards the end of the trail.
