Spook
Our cat Spook fared poorly during vacation. Because he needs insulin injections for his diabetes, we boarded him at "Animal Hospital". Ten days was too long especially as it turns out there was a particularly obnoxious dog being boarded as well. With the incessant barking, Spook apparently stopped eating and drinking and his system started shutting down. The vet began an IV and arranged to transfer Spook to our veterinarian who continued the intensive care. We got word of his condition by email on our last night in Athens. We were scheduled to fly out at six in the morning but Dix wanted to see if there was possibly an earlier (intercontinental) flight out! Thank God we didn't learn of this a day or two earlier. We arrived back home a half hour before the veterinary clinic closed so we got to see Spook. He was emaciated and almost catatonic but did raise his head in acknowledgement of my special neck rub that he loves. He needed one more night of IV so Dix picked him up the next morning. Now a week later he's back to normal and allowed to go outside - he rolled in the dirt, a great sign. Coworker Les advised me of the inevitable - there will be no more extended trips with Dix as long as Spook is alive.
