Dix felt her little 9-inch kitchen TV was going out because the video was beginning to delay in turning on. I jumped on the opportunity to replace this 15-year old tube tube style TV with a nice new 19-inch panel. Sears had its Samsung discounted $25, and a $50 energy rebate put it competitive with an internet purchase. The high def picture looked great in the store. However, it looked pretty shabby at home because we only have basic cable in the kitchen. The old 9-inch was better matched for the basic signal. Bresnan wanted another $6.90 per month for another HD cable box. That would fix the video, but the sound was unbearably tinny. Essentially these new TV's are actually high quality monitors with crystal radio speakers. I tried to compensate by using the Bose radio for external sound. Now the Energy Saver feature is negated by having to run the Bose amplifier. Okay, we have to upgrade the cable service and run additional peripherals to get to get back to watchable TV. But now we would need to use three remotes - cable box, TV, and Bose. Dix said, "No way! Take the TV back to the store today." We will wait 20 seconds for the video to come on now on Dix's old TV.
