Camp

This is what hunting is about to me. Sitting on top of an outcrop with the sun casting the first light on mossy granite and deer and moose (they know what kind of license we had) poke along the park edges. My guides were dutifully glassing out the meadows and pointed out the wildlife, including a pair of hunters dressing out their kill - the only disruption of the peace and quiet of the morning.

The aging hunters needed their comforts. I had a cold onset on opening day that required me to be chauffeured on Travis' new canopied ATV. I needed to use the seat belt to stay upright. I apologized to everyone in advance for infecting camp. Even on the warm days you could find Don jockeying for position in the sun. He had common sense to leave camp on the fifth day to nurse what developed into a cold at home. Travis was spared the virus until he got home after the week.

Chow was pretty good. Dave brought a chili that was a little on the hot side but it did help open up the stuffed sinuses.

The last evening hunt we were entertained by a mad cow moose. She disrupted our stake out with her extreme curiosity that developed into an apparent outrage that we were invading her space. Her big bull seemed to want to leave but she persisted to hold her ground. Travis threw a branch at her so we could leave our rock fortress but that cranked her up even more. The last straw was when Dave discharged his Raging Bull pistol and she proceeded to chase us with hair standing on end.
The defeated and humiliated hunters huffed and puffed our way up the hill outa there.
