For Christmas I gave Dix the gift of peace of mind. Being the security nut she is, I knew she would like a Schlage push button keyless door entry lock. That meant removal of the old worthless door knob, rehabbing the door holes with insets and wood filler, cutting new holes and interpreting indecipherable instructions. The reputed installation time of 30 minutes turned into three hours over three days.
My Christmas present from Dix was a blue 5-inch rotating vice to replace my red 3.5 inch one that has served me for 35 years. That's 0.1 inch per year. The first job for the new vice, after securing it to my workbench with four bolts, an actual 30-minute job, was to crack a pecan which it did nicely.
