Grandson

We are pretty proud grandparents as we have learned our grandson has been accepted to Lane Tech College Preparatory High School. He has been working hard getting all A's, making application and taking tests to get in. He was one of one of 127 sixth-graders in the entire Chicago School District that were accepted.  He begins in the fall taking a high school level courses, ultimately including 30 classes transferable as college credit. The new enrolees and their parents took an orientation tour a couple days ago, replete with ROTC honor guard, an address by the school president and a tour guided by current 7th and 8th graders. The boy was speechless, almost trembling, possibly having something to do with their hostess being a cute cheerleader. He was shocked that the school had pretty girls.

Meanwhile he is finishing his current school year with your normal cross section of human society, including one reprobate that body-checked him on the playground causing a split lip. He said this exemplifies why he applied to Lane Tech. In this public school there will be no druggies, drop-outs, or gang bangers.
